I think the people in the picture are celebrating National Day and also the birthday of the woman who sits on a chair in the foreground. The cake on the woman’s hands tells me that it is the woman’s birthday. The fans on the people’s hands with certain words and the tiny Singapore flats on the people’s hands tell me that it is National Day. Thus, I guess that the woman sits on a chair in the foreground was born on National Day. Everyone is celebrating National Day as well as the woman’s birthday. The woman in the foreground is ecstatic as so many people celebrate her birthday. The celebration is probably held in a park as there are trees on the right hand side. The day is a sunny day as some of the people are wearing hats and some are holding umbrella. I think the two female who are beside the woman may be her daughter or her relatives since they have almost the same size as the woman. I think the woman will feel proud because she was born on the day which Singapore was set up. She will also be sensation because plenty of people celebrate her. I think this will be a unforgettable birthday for her too.

Picture One
I think the people in the picture are attempting the low element which also known as ‘spider web’ and they are students from a school. The participants are gathered around at the campsite as shown in the background. The boy in the foreground is trying to go through the spider web. His teammates who are beside and behind him are helping him to balance himself in order not to touch the threads that form the spider web. The boy, who is beside him, is bending down and put his hands on his teammate’s waist to support him. The boy and the girl who are behind him are holding his legs so that he won’t touch the thread so easily. Another girl who is also one of the participants is cheering for them. Every participant looks extremely elated and I think they will be proud of themselves as they have been united as one. Having outdoor team-building activity can build up the bond between teammates. The participants will also learn the importance of teamwork from the activity. After this activity, I think that the participants will know that teamwork is really essential in daily life because when the work which cannot be done by their own selves, will always be done by a team. I think this is why their school holds this activity.

Tell me about how you prepare for a trip away from home
The most impressive trip in my memory is the trip to Japan. Japan is one of my favourite countries. I like Japanese food. I like Japanese culture. And I like Japanese language. When I was 14 years old, I knew that I had an opportunity to go to Japan a month after as I aced my End of Year Exam. I was extremely excited. From that day onwards, I began to learn Japanese so that I could talk to Japanese if there is any chance. I also researched the information of Japan online. I researched about Mount Fuji which is a dormant volcano and also the highest mountain in Japan. I researched about the delicious food of Japan such as sushi which is one of the traditional foods of Japan. I researched about tatami which is a traditional floor covering in Japanese house. I also researched about Japanese culture and knew that Japanese Empire had been communicated with Chinese Empire in the past. Some of the Japanese culture came from China. Japan and China actually kept in touch friendly and peaceful in the past. I even research about Japanese News in order to know that who is the president of Japan nowadays and who will be the next president. This is my preparation for a trip away from home.

A time when I felt unloved
The first and also the last time when I felt unloved was when I was going to Primary One. In that days, the schools in my hometown were not as good as the schools in the neighbour city. In order to ensure me to be educated, my parents sent me to a school which was quite far away from my home and I could only go home once a month. I was extremely unwilling to go to that school. However, my parents ingnored what I thought. They sent me there and just left me there for one month. During the month, I could only contact them on phone. I felt unloved and I felt that they did not care about me anymore because they never said that they would come to my school to see me when I told them I was lonely.
Day by Day, I have grown up and I could understand why me parents sent me to the boarding school ------- because they wanted to to be an independent person so that I can take care of myself when they were not with me. That is not because they not love me anymore.

Caught in a storm
In the early morning, I took a bus to school. Suddenly, I heard an earsplitting crack, following by a heavy shower of rain. It did not affect me since I was in the bus. However, after 5 minutes, I alighted.
Needless to say, the rain did not stop. The way from the bus stop to my school is not covered by anything so I took out my umbrella. At the same time, I hoped the umbrella could protect me to be "attacked" by the storm and rain. While I was heading to school in a chaos of wind, water and noise, there was a blinding flash as lightning hammered down on the floor. Lightning is terrible as it always "divides" the sky into two in a second. I was scared I would be "divided" into two like the sky. By thinking of this, my body was shivering violently. Gradually, the rain became heavier and the umbrella became useless as the rain started to drop on my body, drop in my shoes. I soaked as if I wore my clothes to swim in a swimming pool just now.
Fortunately, my school was not far away from the bus stop. Thus, I reached school within five minutes. It is horrible to catch in a storm.

Dear Mr Lee
PROPOSAL TO PULAU UBIN
As the President of the Green Plan 2012 Club in my school. I have some advise for you to develop Pulau Ubin. I would like to tell you the proposal from some residents.
Firstly, Mr Mohamad Ismail Bin Adam (aged 74, Headman of the island), said that a new clinic and a school for the locals is needed there since his grandchildren have to take a bumboat to the mainland to the clinic and school there. It is very inconvenient.
Secondly, Madam Chan Ah Mui (aged 45, former owner of a kiosk for bicycle rental), proposed that there should have a good bus service, roads and infrastructure. As the same time, make the places around there accessible. She has a desire for cycling tracks and nature trails.
Thirdly, Mr Chandran Mohan (aged 20, polytechnic student), was considering to transform Ubin into a 21st century New Town and enjoying the best of both worlds. Besides, he suggested to have some shopping facilities and nature at their doorstep. It is a relaxed way of life.
Fourthly, Mrs Tan Li Lin (aged 32, housewife and part time hawker assistant), requested reliable water supply as she has hoped to start a coffee stall. Due to a lot of campers and trippers, good water supply is very important.
Last but not least, Melvin Koh (aged 16, ‘O’ level student), analysed that it may need to destroy the natural beauty of the island. However, do preserve Chek Jawa, the pride of Pulau Ubin, as a nature reserve.
After reading the advise above, Are there any ideas come out of your mind that how to develop Pulau Ubin as a satisfactory and impressive place for everyone? If have, please implement without hesitation.
Your faithfully

Tsunami disaster in Indonesia
An earthquake measuring 9.0 magnitudes struck the western end of Indonesia's Sumatra Island on December 26th 2004.
The earthquake was caused by subducion and triggered a series of devastating tsunami along the coasts of most landmasses bordering the India Ocean, killing nearly 230,000 people in eleven countries, and inundating coastal communities with waves up to 30 metres high. It was one of the deadliest natural disasters in recorded history. Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, and Thailand were the hardest hit.
This earthquake unleashed a series of tsunami Sunday that crashed into coastal towns, fishing villages and tourist resorts from Sri Lanka to India, Thailand and Malaysia, killing more than 13,000 people in at least nine countries and leaving thousands missing. This earthquake was also flattening buildings and sending a wall of water higher than the tops of coconut palms into the towns and villages in the province of Aceh.
With a magnitude of between 9.1 and 9.3, it is the second largest earthquake ever recorded on a seismographc. This earthquake had the longest duration of faulting ever observed, between 8.3 and 10 minutes. It caused the entire planet to vibrate as much as 1 cm (0.4 inches) and triggered other earthquakes as far away as Alaska.
The plight of the many affected people and countries prompted a widespread humanitarian response. In all, the worldwide community donated more than $7 billion in humanitarian aid.

Terrorism
Terrorism is a threat to the peaceful world. For example, the September attack in USA was shock the whole world. Due to the attack of the terrorists , many innocent people died and injured and the one of the highest building in the world --- the impressive World Trade Center was collapsed within ten seconds. This is really annoying. Can you imagine that an over hundred floors building used over one year to build and collapsed just within ten seconds?
Terrorism is also a threat to people all over the world. For instance, Mas Selamat and JI hijacked a plane from Bangkok and crashing it into Changi Airport. "Terrorism is usually no laughing matter, especially not in security-conscious Singapore, but the escape from custody of a limping Islamist extremist suspect has led to scorn on the Internet." Terrorism activities happened in USA, and recently even happened in the security-conscious Singapore. Obviously, terrorism is a threat to people all over the world.

TOUR TO CHEK JAWA
A trip to Chek Jawa will be conducted soon. Chek Jawa is a popular nature enclave in Pulau Ubin. Now Chek Jawa have been suspended because the stretch of wetlands needs to recover after being affected badly by heavy rains.
It is valuable to visit Chek Jawa as Chek Jawa is full of special and unique creatures. There are marine flora and fauna. Although Chek Jawa is in a mess now, I believe that Chek Jawa will recover as usual soon.
As a result, It is definitely excellent to visit Chek Jawa after it recover. I would like to recommand to visit Chek Jawa. I swear that it will be a nice memory of your life. Do join us to enjoy this magnificent trip.

summary on coffee
Coffee was first discovered by an Ethiopian goatherd. Coffee was a simple food and beverage for African tribesmen. Now, it is sold in large quantities worldwide as it is valuable in trade. All coffee exporting countries depend on coffee as the main income. Many people depend on it for their living and drink coffee a lot. In 1975, a frost killed almost half of Brazil’s coffee trees which changed the prices drastically. In 1979, frost hit Brazil again. Every tree lost result in no income for three to five years. The income loss is huge considering many trees were lost. Brazil had to stop the export of coffee. Importers bought it in bulk afraid of the shortage. Prices increased and farmers planted more coffee, when it was in abundant, the prices fell. Farmers began substituting coffee for other crops. Both producers and consumers decided to limit production and sell at an agreeable price.

I have learnt a lot through virtual tour, for example, there are still have a lot people concerned with the eco-problems.
When I first found that there is a creature called red panda on a Chinese website, I didn’t expect that there will have other website about the red panda. However, I was wrong. I found a lot of websites even videos and pictures of red panda when I just typed out the word “red panda”. One of the websites is set by a group of people who are trying to protect red panda by every single way that they can do.
I have learnt another thing through virtual tour, which is there are actually a couple of extinct animals are living in the world in some hidden forests or bushes that we have not been bother to explore and we have not thought to live in. I also realized that we are very lucky that we are living in the place where our ancestors had built for us. The government has been making laws to limit high rate of crimes and ensure our security. We don’t have to plan that how much water can we use a day because the water is available. We are living in a happy way. But we may not know that many animals become extinct because of the human being. We cut trees and burn the forest which causes a lot of animals lose their habitat. We keep animals for food which causes the animals lose a happy family.
We have cause animals lose a lot thing so we have the responsibilities to protect animals and try to give them a wonderful life.

Reflection of watching a show about red pandas
From several websites, article and photos, I concluded that red panda is an obedient and shy creature. After watching a show about red pandas, I realized that my conclusion is wrong. Red panda is actually a naughty and lively creature.
The incident happened in the zookeeper’s house in Japan. There two red panda in the house. When the zookeeper was having her dinner, one of the red pandas approached her and it put its hands onto the tray which had three bowls. The zookeeper held up her tray in order to make the red panda give up. The red panda still grabbed it tightly. Finally, the red panda gave up because of the phobia of height.
It was time to go to bed. The zookeeper was going to fall asleep but one of the naughty red panda attacked her unexpectedly. It was not satisfied for the red panda to attack the zookeeper only one time. It gave the zookeeper a stronger slap then it was satisfied with that and finally the red pandas went to bed.
I have already “fallen in love” with this cute and naughty creature.

Baby Red Panda
On June 10, 2008 one male and one female red panda baby were born at the Red River Zoo.
"That day, a female red panda Shan Tou was acting different. She was in her nest box and had brought various toys and branches in with her. She wouldn't come out of the nest box and was not interested in food." Then, the feeder decided to leave her off exhibit and check in on her later. For her surprise, Shan Tou had born two baby red panda. One is a male red panda, the other one is a female. "It has been 6 years since the zoo last had baby red pandas and the entire staff is thrilled. "
We say some animals are extinct, not only because there are a small amount of that kind of animal, but also because they won’t give birth to a lot of babies. Thus, extinct animals need our protection. However, we cannot see these extinct animals everywhere in our daily life. The only thing that we can do in order to protect the extinct animals is try not to destroy their habitat and pollute the environment.
Here, I congratulate the red panda couple that they have born their dear babies.

The unique red panda
"Red panda is the only species of its kind in the world. It is unique in its behavior and specialized in its habitat requirements, as well as the fact that they have no close living relatives. They are a living relict of times past. "
Red panda is really a unique creature. I haven’t seen, even heard this kind of creature since I was born.
We can guess that red panda is a kind of animal which has a red fur through its name but you may not know that red panda has a buff white fur when it was born. It takes about 2 months for babies to achieve adult coloration. During the month of July, they quickly started to grow red, dark reddish brown and black fur. They started to look like miniature adults.
Compare to a Giant Panda, a baby red panda is bigger than a baby giant panda. When a baby red panda was born, it will close its eyes tightly, like a lucifugous vampire. It will huddle itself. At that moment, it looks like a baby monkey.
I should thanks the earth, "produced" such a cute creature. I should also try my best to prevent this extinct creature to be killed.

Why we have to save red panda?
Saving red pandas are important because they are an ambassador for clean air and water for approximately 1 billion people on our planet.
The forests where red pandas live are the lungs of South Asia and if these forests are intact and function properly, just like a humans lungs, then we can ensure a healthy life for the people, animals and plants of South Asia. However, the exact population status of this elusive and endangered animal is currently unknown. By not knowing the status of this population we are unsure of the future of one of the most important ecological regions of our planet.
Let’s imagine that if this kind of animals is extinct, what will happen in the world. Can we continue living in the clean environment? Will human be extinct, too?
If the red pandas are extinct, the forests where red pandas live may be polluted and the forests may become one of the sources of air pollution. Then, people who live in South Asia may be impacted. They may suffer from the diseases which are cause by air pollution.
This is a very essential problem. This problem concerns all of people who live in South Asia, even the entire human. Thus, we have to pay our full attention to solve this problem by behaving ourselves.

Red Panda
The Red Panda, or "firefox," is often referred to as the "lesser panda" in deference to the better-known giant panda. Few people outside its native habitat have even heard of the red panda, let alone seen one.
Red panda are founding the mountain chains of the Eastern Himalaya and parts of southwestern China.
I have not known this kind of animals until searching about animals’ conservation. When I saw this animal’s photos, I felt amazing. It is so cute that I want to keep it as my pet but I know it is impossible.
Red panda does not look like the giant panda. It mostly likes a small bear. It has red fur cover around its body expect its eyes, ears and nose. Its eyes, ears and nose are covered by white fur. It is really a unique animal.
After knowing this animal, I realized that actually there are many unique animals that I have not seen since I was born. They may be very cute creatures or ugly creatures. However, it doesn’t matter because I have already decided to try my best to protect the entire animals in the world. I also appeal the people around the world that do not kill the unique animal anymore, otherwise our descendants will miss a lot of chances to visit their friends ----- animals.
Red panda are founding the mountain chains of the Eastern Himalaya and parts of southwestern China.

Childhood memories
I have almost forgotten how my childhood was but there is an only thing that I won’t forget. That is starting to live in a boarding school in Guangzhou which was far away home. Because of the situation, I could only have a seven-day holiday after a one-month studying.
I was 7 years old then. My “heartless” father “ignored his relatives advice and abandoned” me in a boarding school. The school called Nanyang International School. I still remember the watchword of the school is ‘Nanyang International School is the first bilingual school in China.’
I was unhappy when I studied and lived in the school at the first month. I hated my father because he sent me to school without any unwillingness. However, after a few months, I had already fitted into the school life. I have no longer been lonely because I have already gone on well with my classmates.
When I went to secondary school in China, I understood that my dad had to send me to the boarding school in order to train me as an independent person. I am really grateful to his decision.
Thank you dad.

Travel overseas
In my memories, I have only gone overseas two times. The first destination is Japan. The second one is Singapore.
The most memorable journey is going to Japan. Although I am a Chinese, I am a fan of Japanese culture. I like Japanese language. I like Japanese cartoon. I like Japanese movie. I like Japanese series. I like all the things that are produced in Japan.
I went to Japan during my secondary school summer holiday with my parents. Japan is really a wonderful place. There is very clean and the people there are nice. There remain a lot of Japanese cultural products such as tatami. Tatami is a mat made of a kind of special and excellent straw. Japanese food is also good. The most famous food is sushi. Sushi is a Japanese traditional food. Although they are made of raw seafood, vinegar and rice, they are clean and healthy. There are a lot of natural and wonderful sights such as Mount Fuji. Fuji mount is a dormant volcano. It is a sign of Japan.
After the journey, I always plan that when I can travel around Japan.
(Please don't think I am a traitor after reading this journal.)

Cross Country/Total Defence Day
Feb 13th, my school held an activity which called Cross Country. That meant all of the chongboonise had to jog over one kilometre. For girls, we had to jog 2.8 kilometres. This year, the stage was in Nan Yang Polytechnic.
Nan Yang Polytechnic gave me three different kinds of impressions. Firstly, it likes a hot spring in China because there is a fountain. In China, there is a fountain in the entrance of the hot spring. Secondly, it likes a university because it is very spacious. Thirdly, it likes a MRT station because there are marble staircases.
In China, the longest distance that I run is only 1.2 kilometres so to jog 2.8 kilometers is tough for me.
Cross Country began. I started to run and run and run without stopping. When I finished 800 metres, I felt very tired and I had to gasp for breath. The worst thing is my feet are out of control. They liked two fireballs which are extremely hot. Although, I was eager to finish 2.8 kilometres by jogging, I gave up at last. A long time later, I reached the terminal.
I felt tired that day but it was interesting to jog 2.8 kilometres.

Reflective Journal Of CHEK JAWA [[Vitrual Tour]]
Date: 12 February 2009
Time: 12pm (:
Weather: Sunny & warm !
When we heard about Chek Jawa, we thought it could be a place in Indonesia or Malaysia. But we were surprised to know that it is right here in Singapore. We had the opportunity to go on a Virtual Tour to know about Chek Jawa. We were surprised. You could call Chek Jawa a “forestal hub”. It is a beautiful place filled with marine wild life, coastal forest, rocky shore and coral rubble.
Chek Jawa is located at the eastern tip of Pulau Ubin, Singapore. The virtual tour was indeed an eye opener for us on the beauty of nature. The mangrove animals and plants, coastal forest and the different types of Rocky shore just pushed us to know and learn more about Chek Jawa.
Our first touch was with the Rocky Shore. It looked abit rocky with full of small and medium rocks. The rocky shore is scenic at sunrise but when the tide is out, it could be really hot. Any creatures that live in the rocky shore will have to tolerate such weather conditions. Another interesting finding was the Volcano Barnacle. It is definitely not a Volcano as it sound, but a small living animal. It is covered with a shell which has a segmented body with six pairs of segmented legs modified into feathery appendages. At high tide, the animal waves its legs outside the shell to filter, feed and breathe as the legs also contain the gills. There are also mussels, Mating Nerite shells, and little shells known as periwinkles and many more to look and get amazed.
Plants also add an additional touch to Chek Jawa. There are many mangrove plants. The mudflats are strewn with seaweed beautifying the mangrove settings. There are boya flowers, huge pandan-like plants called Mengkuang. We managed to catch the most interesting plant. It is called Blind-your-Eye Mangrove tree. The plant can cause temporary blindness because of its milky sap. The breath taking view on our tour was the carpet anemones. This can only be viewed during low tide. The sand is littered with some round colourful looking objects more like a candy. It is indeed a rare side on the tour. Coral rubble with colourful sponges are also a must look attraction in Chek Jawa. Colour does really add a beauty to this coral rubble.
Lastly, the virtual tour on Chek Jawa has exposed us to love nature. We wish to make Chek Jawa an important place to visit during our next school vacation. It is understood that we can only visit Chek Jawa during low tides. This virtual tour has also given us a better idea on the surroundings about Chek Jawa.

Confession of A panic
Confession of panic
Ghosts, vampires or mummies always appear at nighttime. Compare to daytime, nighttime is dark and horrible. Thus we don’t know what will happen and what will appear unexpectedly. For example, a ghost with long black hair that covers its face will appear behind you when you are on your way to toilet.
From childhood, my cousin had told me many ghost stories. Although I was very scared about the ghost stories, I would be attracted by them. Then after I listened to the ghost stories, I couldn’t fall asleep and I would open my eyes as big as possible to see whether the ghost would appear in front of me and ate me up. Merely the thought of that made me come out in goose flesh.
Until now, I am still scared to stay in a place alone at nighttime.
I still remembered the day when my parents went out on business for two days and one night. I still had lessons then so I had to stay at home alone. I turned on all of the lights in my house to avoid the ghost to approach me so that I would not scare. However, time always passes quickly. It was time to go to sleep, but I had to switch off the lights before I went to bed.
After I myself struggled, I switched off the lights finally. Then I lay on my bed and I opened my eyes liked a goldfish, whose eyes are immense and round, with horror and my lips trembled with tear. I looked around my room carefully liked an explorer to check whether there are any ghosts around my room or not. Suddenly a strange noise broke the silence of the night. A thrill of fear ran through me. Then instinct told me that I’d better to shout, but I couldn’t, because I was afraid that the ghosts would approach me and then ate me up. Thus, I looked at the sound source for a long time. Then there was nothing happened, I felt that was useless so I forced myself to fall asleep so that if the ghosts ate me up, I would not feel painful. Therefore, I closed my eyes tightly. That night my heart liked a lively dear, it jumped and jumped without tiredness. I fell asleep with bloodcurdling at last.
The incident will stay in my heart forever because it was the most horrible incident that I have experienced. I won’t forget the horrible night!
